Basketball Recap: West Laurens Comes Up Short

If West Laurens was feeling good fresh off their 82-50 takedown of Aquinas last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The West Laurens Raiders fell to the Cross Creek Razorbacks 60-55. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 220th, while the Razorbacks are ranked 26th).

Loss or not, West Laurens got some senior leadership from RJ Whipple and Dorian Watkins. Whipple went 7 for 10 en route to 19 points, while Watkins went 8 of 16 on his way to 19 points. The dominant performance also gave Whipple a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (83%). Another player making a difference was Mark Fordham, who posted seven points.

Cross Creek's win on Tuesday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaden Priester, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 19 rebounds. Ty'Jai Heard was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to six boards and six steals.

West Laurens' defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Cross Creek, the victory (which was their 18th in a row) raised their record to 22-1.

West Laurens wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, an 84-63 win against Academy of Richmond County on the 7th. As for Cross Creek, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 49-47 victory against Baldwin on the 6th.
