It's playoff time, and Independence had no trouble coming through when it counted. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Amanda Elzy Panthers a 13-0 shutout on Thursday. Considering the Wildcats have won 13 games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Miller Owens made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Braylon Davis, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was DJ Mitchell, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Independence hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in three consecutive contests.

Independence is on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 17-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Amanda Elzy, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-14.

Independence will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair will be back at it again later today.
