The New Iberia Yellowjackets will challenge the Midland Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. New Iberia will be strutting in after a victory while Midland will be coming in after a defeat.
New Iberia is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against Vermilion Catholic on Monday as they made off with a 15-1 win. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Yellowjackets as it put an end to their five-game losing streak.
Evie Sherville made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). Sherville was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Taylor, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Palyn Freeman, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-5.
New Iberia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 20 runs the game before, Midland was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They came up short against Lafayette, falling 20-1.
Midland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mackenzie Credeur, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-1. Credeur has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.
New Iberia's win bumped their record up to 5-16. As for Midland, their loss dropped their record down to 9-15.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. New Iberia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Midland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
