Recap: Cotopaxi Pirates vs. South Park Burros
The Cotopaxi Pirates had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.6 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They walked away with a 60-48 win over South Park. That's another feather in the cap for Cotopaxi, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Terrance Evans continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which he has scored at least a third of Cotopaxi's points. Another player making a difference was Dylan Bond, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
South Park's loss came despite strong showings from Evan Campbell and Jad Fogelsonger. Campbell almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds, while Fogelsonger scored eight points along with six rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Campbell has scored all season.
Cotopaxi has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for South Park, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-8.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cotopaxi will square off against the Pirates at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Colorado (Monte Vista is ranked 192nd, while the Pirates are ranked 211th). As for South Park, they will head out on the road to take on the Mustangs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sanford is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.
