Softball Recap: West Carroll Thunder vs. East Dubuque Warriors
West Carroll had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 5-18 to make it four. They lost 12-2 to the East Dubuque Warriors. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Warriors this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-2 on Tuesday.
As for East Dubuque, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-7 record this season. The result was nothing new for East Dubuque, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
For East Dubuque's part, Curin Oberman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Oberman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, East Dubuque got a massive performance out of Katie Welp, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI. That's the most runs Welp has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Tierney Miller, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one double.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Carroll will challenge River Ridge/Scales Mound at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Dubuque, they will square off against Morrison at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
