Rocori is 8-1 against Monticello since May of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Spartans will host the Magic at 7:00 p.m. Rocori is coming into the game hot, having won their last nine games.
On Thursday, Rocori sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over Willmar.
Tyler Prom spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Rocori got a big performance out of Zander Folkerts, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Jake Stalboerger, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Monticello got themselves on the board against Becker on Thursday, but Becker never followed suit. They skirted past the Bulldogs 2-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 18, 2023, but that streak is no more.
The result came thanks to Carson Deibele's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks.
On the hitting side, Monticello's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Easton Peters, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Rocori's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Monticello, their victory bumped their record up to 9-3.
Everything went Rocori's way against Monticello in their previous meeting back in June of 2019, as Rocori made off with an 8-0 win. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Magic have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
