Basketball Game Preview: Plainview Pirates vs. O'Neill Eagles

Plainview is 0-10 against O'Neill since February of 2016 but things could change on Tuesday. The Pirates will be playing at home against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Plainview has given up an average of 50.4 points per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Plainview is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Elkhorn Valley on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Pirates took a blow against the Falcons, falling 62-33. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 180th, while the Falcons are ranked 16th).

Meanwhile, O'Neill lost to Boone Central on the road by a 59-40 margin on Thursday. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Plainview will need to focus on slowing down Bergyn Classen, one of several O'Neill players who made an impact when they last played. She posted ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariah Kallhoff, who put up eight points and five boards.

O'Neill's loss dropped their record down to 17-3. As for Plainview, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-13.

Plainview was taken down by O'Neill 58-28 when the teams last played back in February of 2025. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Eagles' Hannah Hilker, who shot 44% from the field to rack up 19 points and three steals.
