Basketball Game Preview: Coolidge Colts vs. Roosevelt Roughriders

The Coolidge Colts will challenge the Roosevelt Roughriders at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Coolidge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 62 points per game this season.

Coolidge is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another highly-ranked state team: Kenwood, who was ranked seventh in their home state at the time (Coolidge was ranked first). Coolidge lost to Kenwood on the road by a 60-43 margin on Saturday. The Colts' loss signaled the end of their ten-game winning streak.

Coolidge might have lost, but man, Josslyn Derricott was a machine: she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 boards. Derricott is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marshea Fisher, who posted eight points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, Coolidge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Roosevelt has relied on a stalwart defense averaging 26.63 points allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Monday. They were beaten by Space Coast 74-24. The game marked the Roughriders' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Coolidge fell to 10-1. As for Roosevelt, they moved to 6-2 with that defeat, which also ended their five-game winning streak.

Coolidge was able to grind out a solid win over Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in January, winning 68-55. The rematch might be a little tougher for Coolidge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
