Basketball Recap: McKinley Red Dragons vs. Hubbard Eagles

McKinley easily dispatched Badger last Saturday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. The McKinley Red Dragons fell just short of the Hubbard Eagles by a score of 59-57 on Thursday. The Red Dragons were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Eagles earlier this season, when they won 52-48.

Leading Hubbard to victory were Layla Songer and Khamyah Howell. Songer went 6 for 12 en route to 16 points along with five boards and three steals, while Howell went 7 of 13 on her way to 19 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals. Those 19 points gave Howell a new career-high. Claire Murphy was another key player, putting up eight points and five assists.

McKinley's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-9. As for Hubbard, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-9.

McKinley will head out to face off against Poland Seminary at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Hubbard, they will host Struthers at 6:15 p.m. on Monday.
