Durand has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Chesaning Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Tuesday, Durand didn't have too much trouble with Fowlerville at home as they won 76-58.
It was another big night for Markell Tate, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Tate is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brayden Kelley, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Chesaning put another one in the bag last Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Hill-McCloy by a score of 58-46. Given Chesaning's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 88th, while Hill-McCloy is ranked 522nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Durand's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Chesaning, their win bumped their record up to 10-0.
Durand came up short against Chesaning when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 61-56. Can Durand avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
