Baseball Game Preview: Roy Royals vs. Viewmont Vikings

The Roy Royals will take on the Viewmont Vikings at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Roy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.

Roy took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 4-1 victory over Bonneville.

Connor Robinson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Roy's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tristan Young, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI. The Royals are 4-2 when Young posts three or more RBI, but 7-10 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Viewmont had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They came out on top against the RedHawks by a score of 5-1. Five seems to be a good number for the Vikings as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Viewmont's win bumped their record up to 14-9. As for Roy, their victory bumped their record up to 11-12.

Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Roy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. However, it's not like Viewmont struggles in that department as they've averaged .452. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Roy suffered a grim 16-0 defeat to Viewmont when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Royals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
