Softball Recap: Hueneme Wins Going Away Against Loara

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Hueneme walked away with it. Everything went their way against the Loara Saxons on Saturday as they made off with a 13-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won eight matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Jaucelynn Ayala spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 20 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hueneme got a massive performance out of Aliyana Vargas, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those six RBI gave Vargas a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Roxanna Silva, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Hueneme is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-14 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Loara, they now have a losing record of 11-12.

As of now, neither Hueneme nor the Saxons have any future games scheduled.
