Softball Recap: Hamilton County Trojans vs. Rickards Raiders
Hamilton County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 11-5 to the Rickards Raiders. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Raiders this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-6 back in February.
Kaden Wetherington was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and six unearned) runs off six hits. Wetherington was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-4. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season.
In other batting news, Destini Cherry made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Aubrey Shehan was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Hamilton County's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Rickards, their victory ended a five-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hamilton County will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Raines at 6:00 p.m. on the 22nd. As for Rickards, they will square off against Jefferson County at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Raiders are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a ten-game losing streak.
