Basketball Recap: Poinciana Eagles vs. Davenport Broncos
The Poinciana Eagles struggled with assists on Thursday (the Davenport Broncos had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Poinciana suffered a tough 59-33 loss at the hands of the Broncos. Poinciana has struggled against the Broncos recently, as their matchup on Thursday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Poinciana saw an underclassman step up: Natalia Calderon scored 19 points along with eight rebounds and four steals. That was a full 57.6% of Poinciana's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Keyanna Stanley, who scored ten points along with two steals.
It was another big night for Sorayah Emilien, who almost dropped a triple-double on 28 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists for Davenport. It was the first time this season that Emilien posted eight or more assists. Destiny Kim was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with five steals.
Poinciana's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Davenport, they pushed their record up to 10-3 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Poinciana will be playing at home against the Kowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Davenport, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against the Cobras at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th.
