Softball Recap: Clinton Prairie Starts off Right with Win over Frontier

Clinton Prairie had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. They never let the Frontier Falcons get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. For the Gophers, this counts as revenge for the 13-1 victory the Falcons walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2023.

Sadie Weliver made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Weliver was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-5.

In other batting news, Clinton Prairie let Keera Grizzle and Brenna Riley run wild. Grizzle scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Riley went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double. Kadie Fearnow was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Clinton Prairie hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games dating back to last season.

Frontier is on a 22-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clinton Prairie will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Faith Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Frontier, they will face off against Attica at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
