Softball Recap: Bourbon County Colonels vs. Lexington Catholic Knights
Bourbon County had lost four straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-17 to make it five. They lost 15-0 to the Lexington Catholic Knights. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Colonels of the 10-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
As for Lexington Catholic, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 14-8. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
For Lexington Catholic's part, Bourbon County's batters probably weren't too happy with Abby Hammond, who pitched a no hitter and racked up seven Ks (she gave up zero walks). Hammond has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 18 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lauren Kelley, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in June of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayla Mattingly, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with four RBI, two runs, and one triple.
Looking ahead, Bourbon County will challenge Lewis County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Lexington Catholic, they will face off against Perry County Central at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Knights 3.2, the Commodores 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
