Armwood is 1-9 against Strawberry Crest since March of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Armwood Hawks will challenge the Strawberry Crest Chargers at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Armwood took a loss when they played away from home last Thursday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Chamberlain 3-1.
Zalen Hicks spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits.
On the hitting side, Carlos Navarro was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Strawberry Crest). They never let Plant City get on the board and left with a 10-0 win on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Chargers in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won seven in a row.
The result came thanks to Brisen Tweedy's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned runs in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Dillon Knight, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024. Nico Cappucci also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Armwood's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Strawberry Crest, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Armwood has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Strawberry Crest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Armwood might still be hurting after the 7-1 loss they got from Strawberry Crest when the teams last played back in February of 2024. Can Armwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
