Softball Game Preview: Redlands East Valley Wildcats vs. Laguna Hills Hawks

The Redlands East Valley Wildcats will challenge the Laguna Hills Hawks at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

On Monday, Redlands East Valley came up short against Riverside Prep and fell 6-3.

Isa Navarro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and five unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, Grace Twente made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Mele Wilson, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Laguna Hills was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost an 8-7 heartbreaker at the hands of Castaic. Even though they lost, the Hawks' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.2 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Kennedy Patterson and Tabitha Kim stepped up to the plate in a big way. Patterson scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Kim scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Patterson also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Patterson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

Redlands East Valley has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. Laguna Hills' loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Redlands East Valley took their win against Laguna Hills in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 19-2. Does Redlands East Valley have another victory up their sleeve, or will Laguna Hills turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
