Baseball Game Preview: Graham-Kapowsin Eagles vs. Sumner Spartans

Graham-Kapowsin is 1-9 against Sumner since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Spartans at 4:00 p.m. Graham-Kapowsin's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Sumner's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Graham-Kapowsin came out on top against Bonney Lake on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run sixth inning. The Eagles took their contest against the Panthers 6-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, Sumner made easy work of Rogers on Wednesday and carried off a 13-5 victory. Considering the Spartans have won seven matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Preston Coleman looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits.

At the plate, Xander Cypher was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Bryce Carl, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Graham-Kapowsin's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Sumner, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season.

Graham-Kapowsin came out on top in a nail-biter against Sumner in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
