Orofino has gone 8-2 against St. Maries recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Maniacs will be playing at home against the Lumberjacks at 10:00 a.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Orofino has three straight wins, St. Maries has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Saturday, Orofino was able to grind out a solid victory over Bonners Ferry, taking the game 8-4.
Tyler Zumpe tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaeger Tondevold, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for Orofino: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Barlow, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, St. Maries came up short against Timberlake on Thursday, falling 17-5.
Peyton Lingo made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Amado Stewert, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Orofino's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for St. Maries, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-9.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Orofino has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .462. However, it's not like St. Maries struggles in that department as they've averaged .446. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Orofino was able to grind out a solid win over St. Maries when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 5-2. Do the Maniacs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lumberjacks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
