Softball Game Preview: First Coast Buccaneers vs. Bishop Kenny Crusaders

The First Coast Buccaneers will venture away from home to challenge the Bishop Kenny Crusaders at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, First Coast turned things around against Sandalwood on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Saints, sneaking past 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Buccaneers have posted since April 5, 2024.

Carmen Overstreet made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Baylee Williams, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Meanwhile, Bishop Kenny earned a 5-1 win over Fernandina Beach on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Crusaders.

Bishop Kenny's victory was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Michelle Jones, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Bishop Kenny hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 3-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

First Coast's record is now 6-9. As for Bishop Kenny, their record now sits at 6-11.

First Coast couldn't quite finish off Bishop Kenny in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 and fell 3-1. Can the Buccaneers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
