Basketball Recap: Jajuan Johnson's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Raines over Godby

Raines and Godby squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but Raines had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Godby Cougars by a score of 65-62. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cougars apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Raines lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Jajuan Johnson, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Thanks to that strong game, he now owns an excellent 41.9% three-point shooting accuracy. Jesus Rice was another key player, going 6-for-12 on his way to 17 points and seven boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Godby to victory, but perhaps none more so than Mekhi Butler, who went 8-for-12 en route to 20 points. The dominant performance also gave Butler a new career-high in shooting accuracy (67%). Another player making a difference was Jaden Staten, who posted 16 points and three steals.

Raines' loss dropped their record down to 12-14. As for Godby, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-6.

Raines does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Godby, they will challenge Rickards at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
