Basketball Preview: Briarwood Academy Buccaneers vs. Augusta Prep Day Cavaliers
Briarwood Academy is 9-1 against the Cavaliers since December of 2020, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Briarwood Academy Buccaneers will look to defend their home court against the Augusta Prep Day Cavaliers at 6:00 p.m. Briarwood Academy will be strutting in after a victory while the Cavaliers will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Piedmont Academy scored an imposing 67 points on Saturday, Briarwood Academy still came out on top. Briarwood Academy walked away with a 74-67 victory over the Cougars. Briarwood Academy pushed the score to 58-38 by the end of the third, a deficit the Cougars cut but never quite recovered from.
Briarwood Academy had a senior duo take command as Kennedy Mosley dropped a double-double on 28 points and 15 rebounds and Caroline Stapleton dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Mosley has scored at least a third of Briarwood Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Branan, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Augusta Prep Day's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by Gatewood 50-15. Augusta Prep Day has not had much luck with the Gators recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Briarwood Academy's victory bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Augusta Prep Day, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-15.
