Fall break from school pushed football action up a couple of days, and was there ever some wild action, starting with top-ranked Corner Canyon, which pulled out a 59-29 win over fifth-ranked and host American Fork on Wednesday.
Junior tailback
Austin Bell rushed 19 times for 230 yards and three touchdowns and quarterback
Cole Hagen threw for 284 yards, rushed for 85 more and accounted for four scores as the Chargers improved to 10-0.
Sophomore quarterback
Maddux "Maddog" Madsen completed 25-of-38 passes for 280 yards and two touchdowns leading American Fork (6-4), which couldn't overcome a 21-0 first-quarter deficit.
The Corner Canyon-American Ford contest was only one of four results featuring two Top 25 teams, including No. 22 Lehi's 24-21 upset of ninth-ranked Orem. A 1-yard touchdown run by
Creyton Cooper late in the third quarter decided that one.
The other ranked-team matchups were also close, with No. 2 Herriman pulling out a 14-12 game over No. 17 Riverton and fourth-ranked Lone Peak defeating No. 8 Pleasant Grove, 17-7.
Two other ranked teams were upset by unranked squads: Woods Cross defeated No. 21 Green Canyon, 35-21, and Wasatch edged No. 24 Springville, 28-27.
