Basketball Game Preview: Clifton-Clyde Eagles vs. Canton-Galva Eagles

The Clifton-Clyde Eagles will square off against the Canton-Galva Eagles on Tuesday. One thing working in Clifton-Clyde's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games.

Last Thursday, Clifton-Clyde made easy work of Blue Valley and carried off a 65-44 win. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while the Rams are ranked 125th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Sevy Wurtz, who almost dropped a double-double on 32 points and nine boards. She has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 15 times she's played. Another player making a difference was Lillian Steinbrock, who went 6 of 8 en route to 13 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Canton-Galva ultimately got the result they hoped for last Friday. They snuck past Goessel with a 42-37 victory. The score was all tied up 18-18 at the break, but the Eagles were the better team in the second half.

Canton-Galva is also on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points per game. As for Clifton-Clyde, their win bumped their record up to 9-3.
