Kayleigh Gibbs and Taylor Sher made a big impact no matter where they played. On the mound, Gibbs struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, Sher tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the most strikeouts Gibbs has posted since back in February. At bat, Gibbs scored two runs and stole five bases while going 2-for-2, while Sher scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Plant City got a massive performance out of Kyleigh Meiers, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Meiers a new career-high. Katelyn Jordan was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, Durant was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 4-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Newsome.
Leanne Allen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits. What's more, she gave up only four walks, the fewest she's had since back in April of 2024.
At the plate, Durant saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabrielle Langston, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Plant City pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.9 runs on average over those games. As for Durant, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.
Both Plant City and Durant just can't seem to miss. Plant City has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.9 hits per game. However, it's not like Durant struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Plant City couldn't quite get it done against Durant when the teams last played back in April of 2023 as they fell 5-0. Will Plant City have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
