Softball Recap: Calvary Academy's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak at Home

Calvary Academy dropped their record down to 4-2 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They came up short against the Atlantic Christian Cougars, falling 13-4. The matchup marked the Warrior's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Calvary Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madison Baccale-Brignoni, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one run. That run was Baccale-Brignoni's first of the season.

As for Atlantic Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

On Atlantic Christian's side, Ava Nixon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Nixon has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Taylor Sutton was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jojo Weeks, who went 1-for-2 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Calvary Academy will face off against Cumberland Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Crusaders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 17.4 runs per game on average), something the Warrior will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Atlantic Christian, they will take on Gloucester County Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
