Basketball Recap: Maplewood Beats Edgewood for Their Fourth Straight Win

Maplewood had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They came out on top against the Edgewood Warriors by a score of 49-36.

Maplewood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Claire Urchek out in front who went 6 for 14 to rack up 21 points and six rebounds. Urchek continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Morgan Himes was another key player, putting up six points and seven steals.

Maplewood's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 34.3% in those games and 25% outside of them. As for Edgewood, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 15-4.

The future could be bright for both Maplewood and Edgewood: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Maplewood will try to hand Windham their eighth-straight defeat when the two meet at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Meanwhile, Edgewood will look to extend Corry's three-game losing streak when the meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
