Baseball Recap: Mansfield Takes a Loss

It was a proper cat-fight when Mansfield duked it out with Athens on Wednesday. The Tigers fell just short of the Wildcats by a score of 8-7. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-6 back in March.

Alex Davis made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Mansfield is 8-1 when Davis posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Riley Oakes was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Mansfield has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-4 record this season. As for Athens, their victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2.

Coincidentally, Mansfield and Athens will both be playing Cowanesque Valley the next time they take the field. The Wildcats will head out to face the Indians at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Tigers will host them at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
