The Sharpsville Blue Devils will head out on the road to challenge the Sharon Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Sharpsville is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Sharpsville and Greenville meet (four straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Blue Devils fell 3-1 to the Trojans.
Sharpsville started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-21.
Meanwhile, Sharon hadn't done well against Grove City recently (they were 0-7-1 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Tigers skirted past the Eagles 3-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Tigers.
Sharon wouldn't go down easily and took Grove City into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 25-16, 13-25, 21-25, 25-14, 16-14.
Sharpsville better focus on containing Emmalie Yobe and Dani Currie as the pair were huge in Sharon's win. Yobe had 29 assists and 15 digs, while Currie had 20 digs, six kills, and three aces. Yobe is crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 14 every time she's taken the court this season. Addie McFann was another key player, getting 16 digs and one assist.
Sharpsville's loss dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Sharon, their record is now 8-4.
Everything went Sharpsville's way against Sharon when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Sharpsville made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Devils since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
