Coby Christensen leads Palm Desert to victory over West Valley

Recap: Palm Desert Aztecs vs. West Valley Mustangs

The Palm Desert Aztecs had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.2 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. Everything went their way against West Valley as Palm Desert made off with a 85-64 victory. Given Palm Desert's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 244th, while West Valley is ranked 600th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Coby Christensen was his usual excellent self, scoring 39 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. That makes it four consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Palm Desert's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wil Wilson , who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

West Valley lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Prince David Jennings, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Jennings scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Elijah Alexander, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds.

Palm Desert pushed their record up to 10-2 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.8 points per game. As for West Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Palm Desert won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Oak Hills at 6:30 p.m. on December 13th. Oak Hills has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for West Valley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Tahquitz at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday.
