Football Game Preview: North Side Gators vs. Baldwyn Bearcats + Official Tickets

The North Side Gators will take on the Baldwyn Bearcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

North Side is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Velma Jackson get on the board and left with a 42-0 victory. That's two games straight that the Gators have won by exactly 42 points.

Meanwhile, Baldwyn waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They really took it to the Urchins for the full four quarters, racking up a 42-6 win. Given the Bearcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi football rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Urchins are ranked 242nd) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Baldwyn had a senior duo take command as Jourdan Crump rushed for 124 yards and one score on only 11 carries and Ethan Johnson gained 82 total yards and two touchdowns. Crump's longest rush was for an impressive 52 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Ashton Grice got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Special teams was a major factor in the game for Baldwyn, racking up 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Grice, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.

Baldwyn didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Grice picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

North Side's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Baldwyn, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

North Side strolled past Baldwyn when the teams last played back in November of 2022 by a score of 41-27. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Bearcats' Jamaury Marshall, who rushed for 107 yards and one TD, and also threw for 118 yards and one touchdown.
