Baseball Recap: The Covenant's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

The Covenant dropped their record down to 10-5 on Friday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the North Cross Raiders by a score of 1-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2024.

The Covenant saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Latham Clark, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one stolen base. Clark has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played.

As for North Cross, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games.

On North Cross' side, not much got past Tristan Lange, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep The Covenant off the board.

At the plate, Ryan Thomas was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. The Covenant will challenge rival Fishburne Military at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, North Cross is set to face off against their familiar foe Virginia Episcopal School at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 2.6, the Bishops 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
