Volleyball Recap: Pearl River Pirates vs. Lakeland Hornets
After flying high against Clarkstown North back in September, Pearl River came back down to earth. The Pirates lost 3-0 to the Lakeland Hornets on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pirates of the 3-0 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in September of 2016.
The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Lakeland scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 25-18, 25-17.
Kelly Mallon had another great game (as she tends to do), getting 25 digs, 18 kills, and two aces for Lakeland. That's the most aces Mallon has posted over her last four matches. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Cruz, who had 14 kills, five digs, and three aces.
Pearl River's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Lakeland, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-1.
Pearl River has already played their next contest (against Nanuet), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Lakeland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-1 win against Yorktown on the 8th.
