Baseball Recap: Hoover Drops Highest Score of Season Against Nicholas County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hoover). They put the hurt on the Nicholas County Grizzlies with a sharp 16-8 win on Tuesday. The Huskies not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 7th (when they won 10-1).

Jayden Ledsome and Peyton Grigsby did most of the damage at the plate: Ledsome got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Grigsby went 3-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double. Those three hits gave Grigsby a new career-high. Sam Salyers was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one double.

Hoover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .533. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

The victory (which was Hoover's third in a row) raised their record to 10-8. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Nicholas County, their loss dropped their record down to 8-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hoover will take on Lincoln County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Nicholas County, they will challenge Wyoming East at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Grizzlies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Warriors have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
