Athens Academy barely beat Elbert County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Spartans blew past the Blue Devils 48-14 on Friday. Considering the Spartans have won seven games by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

A big part of Athens Academy's victory came down to the chemistry between Chap Chapman and his top target Keyon Standifer. Chapman threw for 198 yards and four TDs while completing 75% of his passes while Standifer picked up 73 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Athens Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 214 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Athens Academy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Grayson Stafford and Standifer.

Elbert County's loss came despite strong showings from Dakhovin Dk Winn and Brody Baker. Dk Winn picked up 91 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Baker rushed for 50 yards and one TD.

Athens Academy's record now sits at 8-1. As for Elbert County, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Coincidentally, Athens Academy and Elbert County will both be playing Rabun County the next time they take the field. The Spartans will head out to face the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, while the Blue Devils will host them at 7:30 p.m. on the 31st.
