Softball Recap: Albert Lea Drops Highest Score of Season Against Worthington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Albert Lea). They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Worthington Trojans on Saturday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Tigers considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Taylor Johnson made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Hanna Austinson and Margaret Olson did most of the damage at the plate: Austinson went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI, while Olson went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those two runs gave Austinson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kiera Erickson, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Albert Lea's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-8. As for Worthington, they dropped their record down to 5-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Albert Lea will challenge Faribault at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Worthington, they will take on New Ulm at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
