The Wenatchee Panthers will face off against the Stanwood Spartans at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Wenatchee 3.9, Stanwood 1.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Wenatchee fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Moses Lake on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 9-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
Nolan Godfrey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with five RBI, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Owen Ervin, who went 1-for-4 with two runs and one triple.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Stanwood). They never let Marysville Getchell get on the board and left with a 20-0 victory on Wednesday. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with Marysville Getchell: they've now won eight in a row.
Corban Forslund was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Forslund was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in March.
In other batting news, Gavin Gehrman was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Luke Brennan was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Stanwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.
Stanwood's victory bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Wenatchee, their loss dropped their record down to 11-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Wenatchee has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Stanwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
