Basketball Recap: Fort Hancock Takes a Loss

Fort Hancock played a tough contest on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Wink Wildcats and fell 63-29. The Mustangs have struggled against the Wildcats recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.

Fort Hancock's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Juan Hernandez, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Hernandez a new career-high in boards. Another player making a difference was Patrick Hernandez, who posted six points and 11 rebounds.

Wink found their leader in sophomore Alec Berzoza, who went 8 for 14 to rack up 20 points and five steals. Those five steals set a new season-high mark for Berzoza. Chace Funderburg also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Fort Hancock's defeat dropped their record down to 16-13. As for Wink, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 20-9.

Fort Hancock wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 58-47 win against Van Horn on the 4th. As for Wink, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-45 victory against Iraan on the 4th.
