Basketball Recap: DuQuoin Takes a Loss

DuQuoin lost against Salem back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The DuQuoin Indians took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Salem Wildcats. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Salem to victory, but perhaps none more so than Miking Ettress, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 19 points and four steals. Those four steals gave Ettress a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ayden Rose, who went 7 for 10 en route to 17 points and six boards.

DuQuoin now has a losing record at 11-12. As for Salem, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-18 record.

DuQuoin and Salem could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. DuQuoin will take on Pinckneyville at 7:30 p.m. on Friday down 245 places (284 vs. 39). Meanwhile, Salem (ranked 440th) will meet Mater Dei (ranked 87th) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
