For the first time this season, South Panola will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. After each having a week off, they and Lake Cormorant will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant s against one another: Floyd Wilson and Rashad Bobo.
Last Friday, South Panola came up short against Horn Lake and fell 21-14. While the Tigers had to settle for second, they closed the game well in the third quarter, where they outscored the Eagles 7-0.
Although South Panola took the loss, they still got scores from Carlos Robinson and Tyler Christon.
Meanwhile, Lake Cormorant's game last Friday was all tied up 6-6 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 20-19 victory over Southaven. Lake Cormorant hasn't had any issues with Southaven recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Lake Cormorant found their leader in sophomore Edris Vaulx, who rushed for 153 yards.
Lake Cormorant was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 326 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 244 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Lake Cormorant's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for South Panola, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. South Panola has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 166.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Lake Cormorant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 306 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
South Panola skirted past Lake Cormorant 24-21 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Do the Tigers have another victory up their sleeve, or will Lake Cormorant turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
