Softball Recap: Lawndale Has No Trouble Against Beverly Hills

Lawndale's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Beverly Hills Normans as they made off with an 18-1 victory. The Cardinals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by ten runs or more this season.

Kelly Bailey and Aaliyah Torres made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Bailey pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Meanwhile, Torres tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Bailey a new career-high in strikeouts (three). At bat, Bailey went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double, while Torres got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That home run was Torres' first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Darryn Dean, who scored three runs while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. Miley Arciniega Lopez also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Lawndale was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. They are 5-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Lawndale's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Beverly Hills, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Lawndale will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Normans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
