Monroe Catholic faced Lathrop in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Rams sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over the Malemutes. For the Rams, this counts as revenge for the 12-2 victory the Malemutes walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Monroe Catholic saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gage Goble, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Monroe Catholic pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lathrop, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Looking ahead, Monroe Catholic will face off against Hutchison at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lathrop will be paying especially close attention to the Rams' game: after the Rams face off against the Hawks, they'll take on Lathrop again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
