Baseball Game Preview: Athens Warriors vs. Midwest Central Raiders

Athens is 0-5 against Midwest Central since May of 2018 but things could change on Friday. The Warriors will head out to face off against the Raiders at 4:30 p.m. Athens will be strutting in after a win while Midwest Central will be coming in after a defeat.

On Wednesday, Athens earned a 5-2 victory over Mt. Pulaski.

Athens' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Cole Ishmael, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI. Kenneth Baker also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Meanwhile, Midwest Central started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Peoria Christian. They came up short against the Chargers on Tuesday, falling 12-2. The Raiders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Athens' victory bumped their record up to 9-10. As for Midwest Central, their loss dropped their record down to 4-15.

Athens suffered a grim 21-7 defeat to Midwest Central when the teams last played back in May of 2023. Can the Warriors avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
