Basketball Recap: Decatur Comes Up Short

Decatur managed to keep up with Auburn Mountainview until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Decatur Golden Gators lost 87-62 to the Auburn Mountainview Lions. The Golden Gators have struggled against the Lions recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

When it comes to explaining why Decatur lost, don't look at Jorge Martinez. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Martinez is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Dominique Degrate was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Auburn Mountainview to victory, but perhaps none more so than Sebastian Arius, who dropped a double-double on 27 points and 14 rebounds. Those 14 boards gave Arius a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Beckett Jones, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 18 rebounds.

Decatur's loss dropped their record down to 6-12. As for Auburn Mountainview, they pushed their record up to 18-1 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Kentlake the next time they take the court. Auburn Mountainview will host Kentlake on Thursday, while Decatur will play them later in the day, at 7:00 p.m.
