5A Region IV District 29 recap September 10, 2013

United scaled the state rankings by moving to 379 from 426 this week, the biggest jump in 5A Region IV District 29. The Longhorns climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Smithson Valley 49-21.

Del Rio was the team that made the biggest jump in the rankings, moving from sixth to fourth in the league. The Rams beat Carlsbad 17-7 earlier in the week.

United's dynamic duo of Derek Esparza and Zachary Williams proved tough for the Rangers to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Esparza threw for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns and Williams had 133 yards receiving. David Garcia helped United's passing attack out by catching 10 balls for 95 yards.

David Sanchez's team's dynamic duo of Esparza and Williams proved to be unstoppable against Smithson Valley, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.

Williams was the best receiver in the league this week as the Longhorns lost to Larry Hill's team.

Esparza put up the best numbers in passing as United lost to the Rangers.

He went 28-37 with 2 interceptions.

Miguel Lopez was the best running back in 5A Region IV District 29 this week. In 29 carries, he ran for 175 yards as United South lost to Smithson Valley. Isaac Cabello also contributed to the rushing game with 111 yards on the ground.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, Alexander's Aaron Swain and Marc Lozoya have proven to be a lethal combination. Swain has thrown for 512 yards this season, while Lozoya has 6 catches for 204 yards. Lopez from the Panthers leads the league in rushing with 217 yards.

United lost to the Rangers 49-21 last week, the largest margin of any game. Esparza was a bright spot for the Longhorns, as he ran for 13 yards in the loss.
