Football Preview: Nease Panthers vs. Bartram Trail Bears
Nease hasn't had much luck against Bartram Trail recently, but that could start to change on Friday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 7:00 p.m. Nease is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
Last Monday, Nease needed a bit of extra time to put away Buchholz. They had just enough and edged the Bobcats out 20-17. The 20-point effort marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
It was another big night for Nate Harry, who rushed for 80 yards and a touchdown on only ten carries, and also threw for 193 yards and a touchdown. Those 80 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. A healthy portion of that aerial production (117 yards to be exact) went to Maddox Spencer, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Nease didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Shemar Mcnair and Joe Miracle Iii. Miracle Iii also set a new season high mark in total tackles with 11. Nease got some further help from Jacob Curry: he made 14 total tackles and defended a pass.
Meanwhile, a win for Bartram Trail just wasn't in the cards two weeks ago as the squad wasn't able to take the lead at any point. They lost 46-26 to Tocoi Creek.
Bartram Trail might have lost, but man, Arthur Lewis IV was a machine: he rushed for 249 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.8 yards per carry. Lewis IV really tore up the turf during one magnificent 73-yard run. The team also got some help courtesy of Neko Dawkins, who gained 100 total yards and a touchdown.
Even though they lost, Bartram Trail was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 342 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 180 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Nease's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-0. As for Bartram Trail, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-3.
