Softball Game Preview: Saint Gertrude Gators vs. Bishop O'Connell Knights

The Saint Gertrude Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Bishop O'Connell Knights at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Saint Gertrude has given up an average of 6.7 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Saint Gertrude came into their game on Tuesday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-1 to Trinity Episcopal. The loss continues a trend for the Gators in their meetings with the Titans: they've now lost five in a row.

Meanwhile, Bishop O'Connell put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against St. Mary's Ryken by a score of 6-3.

The team relied heavily on MJ Melvin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Bri Lencz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Bishop O'Connell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. The last time their batting average was this high was back in March.

Saint Gertrude's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Bishop O'Connell, their record now sits at 17-0.

Saint Gertrude might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Bishop O'Connell in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
