Preview: Southwood Knights vs. Northfield Norsemen

Southwood has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Northfield Norsemen at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Saturday, Southwood didn't have too much trouble with the Raiders at home as they won 54-36. The win was just what Southwood needed coming off of a 55-32 defeat in their prior contest.

Southwood got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lola Winer out in front who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Winer hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracie Lambert, who scored 13 points.

Meanwhile, winning is just a little bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 19 to 5 on the offensive boards, a fact Northfield proved on Saturday. They walked away with a 49-38 victory over Churubusco. The win made it back-to-back wins for Northfield.

Hannah Holmes was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 19 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points she has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Elli Baker, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds.

Southwood's victory bumped their record up to 7-14. As for Northfield, their victory bumped their record up to 10-13.

Southwood suffered a grim 55-34 defeat to the Norsemen in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Southwood avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
