Baseball Recap: Saint Francis Catholic Wins Going Away Against Hawthorne

Saint Francis Catholic had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 11-run drubbing they dealt Hawthorne on Friday. The Saint Francis Catholic Wolves put the hurt on the Hawthorne Hornets with a sharp 13-2 win. Considering the Wolves have won five games by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Jake Long looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Colin Kuruppacherry and Jonah Powers did most of the damage at the plate: Kuruppacherry scored two runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-4, while Powers went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance also gave Kuruppacherry a new career-high in RBI (three). Another player making a difference was Johnny O'Donnell, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Saint Francis Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Saint Francis Catholic's record is now 7-5. As for Hawthorne, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-6.

Looking ahead, Saint Francis Catholic will welcome Riverside Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hawthorne, they will venture away from home to challenge Wildwood at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hawthorne is facing Wildwood at the right time seeing as Wildwood is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
